WHO / Department of Reproductive Health and Research
The BOLD project is led by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Department of Reproductive Health and Research (RHR) in collaboration with the Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health. Among others, RHR hosts the UNDP/UNICEF/UNFPA/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP), an established partnership on research and research capacity strengthening in reproductive health with a track record of high quality research outputs and a network of institutions strengthened for conducting research in reproductive health.
In implementing BOLD, RHR has partnered with M4ID, a social enterprise that provides new communication technology services for the not-for-profit sector. M4ID combines in-depth knowledge of development and health with technology and communication expertise. M4ID delivers projects for organizations across Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe. The agency also researches and develops new service concepts, filling innovation gaps particularly in the area of reproductive, maternal and newborn child health.
Department of Social Medicine (DMS) / Ribeirão Preto Medical School / University of São Paulo (Brazil)
RHR has partnered with the DMS for the development of information-technology solutions and use of international reproductive health expertise necessary for the implementation and analysis of the BOLD Project. DMS is dedicated to understanding the social determinants of health and the development of policies and practices for modification and mitigation of these determinants. Through teaching, research and extension services to the community, and with intensified focus on primary health care, the DMS-FMRP-USP seeks to promote the role of individuals, families and communities to reach their physical, mental and social well being. As part of that, DMS built a long history of national and international technical cooperation on public health issues. In 2013, DMS was awarded by the Pan-American Health Organization / World Health Organization Regional Office for the Americas for its reaching impact on health professionals, programs and community medicine.
BOLD has a multi-stakeholder steering committee that provides technical and scientific guidance to BOLD activities.
BOLD is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
